Controversial Osteoporosis Article in Japanese

In 2006, professor Hirotoshi Morii of the Osaka City University Medical School wrote an article about Thijs Klompmaker's controversial osteoporosis hypothesis in the Japanese scientific journal "Clinical Calcium" (in japanese; [Adequate calcium intake and osteoblast function] Clin Calcium. 2006 Jan;16(1):92-5.)

As indexed in PubMed Professor Morii wrote:
"TR Klompmaker proposed that adequate calcium intake should be determined on the basis of the function of osteoblast. Excess calcium intake may accelerate the osteoblastic function by promoting replication of osteoblast, resulting in increase of the rate of apoptosis of osteoblast and in the increased rate of fracture. Another point is that the higher calcium intake does not necessarily result in the decreased incidence of fracture from the comparison of incidence of fracture and calcium intake among various countries. We have not yet had enough data to support the adequate calcium intake and thus need to have definite criteria to evaluate the adequate intake of calcium".

Equally so, this was recognized by NASA, and published in their "Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports" (STAR), volume 44, issue 5 (march 10, 2006), page 51 (20060006962)

Unfortunately, professor Morii passed away at age 74 on April 6, 2006, due to acute heart failure shortly after coming back from his trip to an osteoporosis-related meeting in Vienna, Austria.
Dr Morii, M.D., professor emeritus, was the founding father and executive editor of the journal Clinical Calcium.
He also was the chairman of Japan Osteoporosis Society, the executive director of International Osteoporosis Foundation, member of the WHO Scientific Group Meeting on Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis, and the vice-chairman of the board directors of Japan Osteoporosis Foundation.
"Dr. Morii was a pioneer of the osteoporosis prevention movement. He devoted his life to enlighten people for preventing the disease and contributed to the establishment of medical organizations for diagnosis, treatment, and support by medical specialists."

Professor Morii's books
"New Perspectives in Magnesium Research"
"Calcium in Internal Medicine"

"A tribute to Hirotoshi Morii, M.D., Ph.D. (1933–2006)", was written by professor Yoshiki Nishizawa

Klompmaker's original article has also been quoted in this extensive Japanese anti-milk article.
